Matching Hardware with Kitchen Cabinet Design
You have decided to install new kitchen cabinets, or refinish existing cabinets. Hopefully, if you chose to install new cabinets, the manufacturer helped you choose appropriate hardware.
If not - or if you are installing or refinishing them yourself - then you can take this opportunity to think about matching your kitchen cabinet hardware with the style of cabinets and other furniture you have chosen.
Kitchen cabinet knobs, pulls and hinges are the hardware accessories you will need to look at matching your kitchen cabinet design. Does your cabinet style match the rest of your house? If it does, then you will need to begin by deciding whether your style is country or formal traditional, contemporary or a mixture.
The next consideration is the type of cabinet material you have chosen, and how it is finished. Matching your kitchen cabinet hardware should thus take into consideration style, product material, and finished look. With those details in place, you can choose between knobs or pulls, the style of hinge, and between ceramic, plastic, wood, and various metal constructions.
Kitchen Cabinet Knobs as Personal Expression?
Can your choice of kitchen cabinet knob really be an expression of personality? For some people the kitchen cabinet hardware is merely an economical choice; others place a great deal of pride in their choice of kitchen décor, the cabinets being the centerpiece.
However, what appears to be a choice based on cost may actually describe to others your personality, or at least your priorities. For instance, if your kitchen is an informal place to you then a formal traditional kitchen cabinet design will seem out of place. And if you put contemporary kitchen cabinet hardware on antique oak it will say something entirely different about you.
Matching kitchen cabinet design with kitchen cabinet knobs and other accessories can certainly be an expression of personality - intentionally or not. Your decision on kitchen hardware should not be taken lightly; it could mean the difference between tasteful décor and wasted effort.
