A home improvement project like a kitchen makeover
is the perfect time to think about how you want your kitchen to
feel--to you and to everyone else. Use this opportunity to consider
how the details can help you speak volumes about yourself.
S is for Shapes
The shapes of your kitchen say something about what kind of room
it can be. Straight lines, squares, and other hard angled shapes
convey a sense of modernity, coolness, order, and openness while
circles, rounded edges, and soft lines create a sense of invitation,
softness, warmth, and even a little bit of chaos. Some lines
simply work better than others in the area. It all depends on
how you want the kitchen makeover to shape up.
T is for Tone
The word 'tone' may conjure up more of a musical thought than
one that applies to a home improvement project, such as a kitchen
makeover. With a remodel, however, 'tone' refers to the feeling
that you decide to project from the space. Tone can be set through
the colors you choose (such as bright, strong colors as opposed
to soft, pale ones) or through the materials (think marble and
stone as opposed to wood). When you're working on a kitchen makeover,
it's a great time to seriously consider the tone of your kitchen.
It's a great time to think about changing your tune.
U is for Usability
Form versus function is an age-old debate when it comes to design.
However, in a home improvement project, such as a kitchen makeover,
not only can you have a combination of both, but it is actually
the better approach. Choose appliances that fit both the style
of your kitchen as well as your needs for the space. While some
appliances that capture the essence of form and function are
more expensive, consider the fact that you'll have them in your
kitchen for decades.
