Installing Doors in Glass Cabinets
You can install a new door in your glass cabinets or replacing an existing door. Read on for instructions on how to cut the glass and caulk it into place. Begin with the proper tools - a drill, jigsaw, measuring tape, masking tape, small hammer, and grease pencil. You also need the right materials - glass panels, caulk, paint, wood glue, small nails, paint, and corner round. If you are going to cut your own glass, measure carefully and leave at least a one inch frame around the panel of the glass. You can also use pre-cut glass. For glass cabinets with existing doors, take off the doors and remove the hardware. Look inside the cabinet and decide where you want to put the panels. Measure and use the grease pencil to mark the place. Put masking tape on the exact spots that you measured. To make sure you have the right measurements, put the piece of glass on the spot that you marked to line it up exactly. Remove the panel by drilling four holes at each corner and using the jigsaw to complete the cuts. Remove the panels and attach the molding to the front of the cabinet to form the frame for the new glass panel. Before putting the molding on the cabinet, cut it to a 45 degree angle using a saw and stain or paint it. Attach the molding with glue and allow it to dry. Caulk the joints and paint them if you like. When the paint is dry, install the doors in your glass cabinets.
