Where to Find Parts for Kitchen Cabinet Repair
If you have to replace or repair any kitchen cabinet parts in the future, and you probably will, you should know that there are several choices in where to buy the parts that you need. No longer is the hardware store down the street the only store in town where you can find these parts. Not only do you have a choice of styles, as in, say hinges, but you have a number of options in where to purchase them. You can still choose the hardware store, but now included in your choices are "big box" retailers such as Wal-Mart or Target, home improvement chain stores like Lowe's and Home Dept, and there are even online kitchen cabinet repair parts stores.
Advantages of different choices in purchasing kitchen repair parts
The advantage of buying kitchen cabinet repair parts in an old-fashioned hardware store is that not only do you have many, many choices, but the customer service usually can't be beat. These neighborhood hardware stores believe in establishing relationships with their customers.
The biggest advantage of buying at a big box retailer is the price. These retailers buy tremendous amounts of things in bulk, usually at a very inexpensive price. They then pass these savings on the customer.
An advantage of buying kitchen repair parts in a chain home improvement store is the variety of choice in parts. Because they specialize in home improvement parts, these stores stock much more variety than a big box retail store.
The last option combines the variety of a hardware or home improvement store with the price of big box retailers. Add to that the ease of purchasing kitchen repair parts without leaving home, and this one sounds like the best. However, there are some disadvantages to buying online. These, as well as the disadvantages of the other options, will be discussed below.
Disadvantages of different choices in purchasing kitchen repair parts
The biggest disadvantage of the neighborhood hardware store when buying kitchen repair parts is the price. You really pay for that personal service; sometimes by 20 or 30%. But if you have absolutely no hardware knowledge, or just appreciate the personal touch, the higher price may be worth it.
One bad thing about a big retail store like Wal-Mart or Target is that they may have limited variety. Because they buy in bulk from suppliers, they may have more of one or two particular styles. If you just need a standard part, then this is the way to go, but if you're looking for something unusual or hard-to-find, this is not a good choice.
Home improvement stores' main disadvantage is customer service and staff knowledge. Because these stores are so big, they have lots of employees, many of whom are just average people with no more home improvement knowledge than anyone else. So, if you are an inexperienced do-it-yourselfer, or need advice on a specific project, this is probably not the best choice for you.
The disadvantage to buying online is that you don't see the product before you have it in your hands. Be sure to check the company's return and exchange policies and don't forget to add shipping prices to the cost.
