Learn How To Build Kitchen Cabinets

Once you have a building plan for your kitchen cabinets, you're ready to transform your kitchen into a stylish and functional space for living, cooking, and entertaining.

Learn how to build kitchen cabinets by following your plan as carefully as you would a new recipe. First, you will need adequate work space to build your kitchen cabinets. Before you begin your project, be sure that the kitchen area is evacuated and cleaned. Put plastic sheeting on the floor to protect it. Before you begin building the cabinets, make sure that you have all the pieces cut and ready to assemble. In addition to the main cabinet panels, you'll need plywood strips about three inches in height as well as a few cross braces to support the cabinet while you are working.

You will save a lot of time if you build each section as a unit. Depending on the amount of space you are working with, your measurement dimensions will vary. A lower cabinet, for example, may be 22 inches from the front to the back and 30 inches high. Assemble the rectangular frame for the base by using the plywood strips, and use the cross braces to support the cabinet panels. Assemble the cabinet boxes by attaching the side panels to the bottom. Your outside panels should be about 1/2-inch wide and 3/8-inch deep. You also will need to install inside panels for partitions. Screw the cabinet bottom to hold it into place. Finally, add the face frames, the doors and drawers.

It's not difficult to learn how to build kitchen cabinets. The key is careful planning and precision as you measure and assemble the panels.
