Getting On and Off Your Roof
Each year there are thousands of accidents caused by homeowners who incorrectly get on or off their roof. Falls from the roof pack emergency centers daily when this type of accident can easily be avoided. Make safety your first priority when you are working on your roof. There are some simple techniques that you can practice that will ensure that you ascend and descend your roof safely. First, make sure that you place your ladder on level ground to give yourself a good, solid base. And place your latter in at least a seventy five degree angle before you start your ascent. These two practices alone will give you a better setting in which to get on top of your roof.
Next, make sure that you always use both hands and feet when climbing the ladder onto your roof. If you need work materials on your roof, have them passed up to you by someone on the ground. Or you can tie them to a rope and pull them up to you when you have safely gotten to the roof. When it is time to come down from the roof, always descend facing the ladder. Never descend facing away from the ladder. This is where most common roof accidents occur. Finally, be sure to store your ladder away promptly when you are finished with your roof project.
